Sugarloaf Elementary
The Sugarloaf Elementary School project, built for the Henderson County Public Schools system, was an entirely new school of 85,000 sq. feet, complete with a gymnasium, full kitchen, cafeteria, and media center in addition to classrooms and offices. It also featured solar panels to supply the hot water for the kitchen.
Underground springs at the location of one wing presented a unique challenge, which was met by installing a drainage system consisting of piping in a grid along with a thick layer of gravel underneath the slab. Subsequent moisture testing on the slab before flooring installation confirmed the success of this strategy.
